The attack had been sudden, unexpected. One moment, he'd been sitting on his bed, eyes closed, ready for his nightly meditation. The next, his apartment exploded into bright lights and broken glass. Hiryu had sprung into action immediately, instinct taking over where logic hadn't quite kicked in. One hand reaching to the closest assailant, grabbing the man's arm, and treating his body as cover for the hail of bullets than began to fly across the room.

They had caught him unprepared, and that only served to frustrate him. He didn't like to show weakness, and that was all he saw this as: a moment of weakness taken advantage of. He'd managed to keep moving though, jumping off the bed and through the door with the now-bullet-riddled body providing him decent cover. But the rest of the apartment was compromised as well, with assailants breaking through the window after rappelling down the outside of the building.

This wasn't some random attack. This was too tactical, too planned for that. The resources at work here were too much for some random hit job ordered by any one person. Body armor, assault weapons, tactical breaching. This was bigger than that, maybe some kind of large organization.

Unfortunately for them, that tactical training was their downfall.

The apartment was covered in smoke, no doubt from the smoke grenades that were tossed inside once the windows were breached. However, Hiryu had trained against maneuvers like this, and before they could get their bearings together, he'd gone to work. Holding his breath, he darted from one assailant to the next, grabbing large shards of glass and jamming them into the assailants' throats. It wasn't a perfect tactic, and some of them could fight off the initial assault, but it was only a distraction.

All he needed was the Cypher. And once he'd made it to the other side of the apartment, the familiar hum of the Cypher's plasma generator filled the air. The sound was enough to bring a deathly calm over the apartment, all guns immediately trained on the Strider, the glow of the Cypher making him a sitting duck.

But he had his weapon now.

And nothing signified how dangerous of a prospect that was more than the lightning-fast arc of plasma that shot forward, and disintegrated not just some of the assailants, but a portion of the wall. The confusion was enough for Hiryu to dash forward, weaving through the remaining assailants, before jumping out the building through the open wall. Red scarf trailing behind him, as he landed on the next rooftop over, and began running. Whatever force had attacked his apartment followed behind, both on foot and in vehicles.

But it didn't matter. They had lost the element of surprise.

They were already dead.

Hiryu had made it a point to keep a low profile when he arrived in this city. He didn't know much about it outside of what the mission briefing detailed, and as it turned out, it didn't detail a lot. The city was riddled with economic instability, social stigmas, and a form of government that made it a point to keep things the way they were. This government also made it a point to make this city appear like a paradise from an outsider's perspective.

Which was why he was here.

His targets were the people who ran the government. But given the current situation, he needed more information to go on before he could act in any capacity. As such, a low profile served him best, given any undue attention on him would draw suspicion. And right now, he needed the ability to move around freely, especially in back alleys like he was doing now.

He wasn't such a fool to think that this city didn't have venues through which he could learn more. If the government was corrupt, then there were people opposing it. Whatever the case may be, conflict of this sort always brought out those eager to make a profit from it. And that was what he needed to find.

The Black Market.

"I'm here for information." Hiryu said after knocking on the door standing disarmingly in front of it. He'd been tipped off that this might be someone who could help get him in touch with the right people. Suffice it to say, he had no other leads to go on.

Hiryu was tense as he wrapped his hand around the door handle. Unsure of what was waiting for him at the other side, despite being told to come here. It had been a simple enough message; someone just wanted to meet with him. But he was never told why, nor was he told who he was meeting.

Of course, the highly-trained assassin was suspicious. Even if he had been reassured that it wasn't a big deal, there hadn't been very many instances in his life where things ended up 'not being a big deal'. Usually things went south very quickly, which was the sort of thing he trained for. As such, this felt less like a meeting, and more like... a trap, really.

Whatever the case may be, he knew what he was capable of. If things went south, he would be prepared. As such, he finally turned the handle, and opened the door. "You asked to see me."
